Core Assistant Assistants solve the simplest problems for which, in principle, you don’t need any expertise or craftmanship. They deal with purely routine work that you can do without thinking. It can be on a production line, picking up litter, sorting, packing, or basic household tasks: problems that can be solved without training or practice. There are, of course, minimum requirements for an Assistant. You have to be disciplined and be able to work accurately. You also have to be able to keep things tidy, to clean up after yourself and not leave things unfinished. No specific training is necessary; the employee can start immediately after being told what to do.
Mastery
The work consists of a repetitive task or tasks for which no particular expertise is required.
Autonomy
The employee only has to deal with unambiguous situations and is completely controlled by devices or strict rules, so that they never have to interpret the circumstances.
Impact
A helpful attitude and reliability, collegiality and punctuality are required in order to carry the work out with others.
Ownership
The work is such that it’s impossible to make a mistake, even if the employee doesn’t feel particularly responsible for the final result.
Master Assistant Two things are particularly important. Firstly, that the employee knows how to do the more complicated production work, where precision and skill are required. Secondly, some training is necessary so that the employee knows how to apply the more subtle tricks of the trade.
Work at the level of Master Assistant can’t be done by everyone. Care and precision are demanded. In other words, employees at this level demonstrate a certain sense of responsibility, because a certain level of risk (what can go wrong if you make a mistake) is involved. Precision is also required, because the employee has to be able see when something is wrong and draw attention to it, or take action themselves if that is what is expected.
The second thing that we expect at this level is that employees take action or work harder if they see that it is necessary. They are pro-active. They want to be an example for others: this is how employees at this level can make a difference.
Mastery
The work involves a repetitive task or tasks for which some specific expertise acquired by training is required.
Autonomy
The work demands precision, because it has to be done with concentration and accuracy.
Impact
The work demands the ability to take decisions, for others as well, if there are mistakes or exceptional situations arise.
Ownership
The employee is responsible for performing non-managerial, purely routine work where there is some risk in respect of the final result (mistakes/ irregularities have to be detected).
